Year 13 students have the opportunity to take on a vast array of  leadership opportunities. The current structure has positions for a third of the year group and comprises one Head Student, and nine School Captains leading on the three main areas of the school: academic, House and pastoral. Under their direction are Prefects for each of their areas of responsibility.  The student leaders are the key leaders of the student body through their management of student voice, the House system and a large number of clubs and enrichment activities that are provided for students in the younger year groups.

Students follow a comprehensive selection process, started in Year 12, in order to become a student leader. Once selected, all student leaders are given extensive training on areas such as Safeguarding, SEND, and chairing meetings.

Students in Year 12 take part in a volunteering programme, working towards the STAR award in Altruism and Respect at either Bronze, Silver or Gold level.  Students must complete at least seven hours of in school volunteering to achieve the Bronze award. In addition, students are also encouraged to partake in volunteering opportunities outside of school and after school hours to achieve the Gold award.

The volunteering scheme provides students with numerous opportunities to apply their leadership skills across the school from assisting staff  at school  events,  break duties and lunch duties, supporting in the library,  to helping to run intervention sessions and supporting the curriculum in lessons, to name but a few.
