At Queens' School we seek to inspire all students to have the highest expectations about their career aspirations. This section of the website is for students, teachers, parents/carers and employers wanting to find out more about our careers education programme.

Key Stage Information

Key Stage 3

Provision

  • In Key Stage 3, all students have Lifelong Learning lessons, Assemblies and Form tutor time giving them access to valuable Careers information, alongside opportunities to go on trips and visits relating to their future prospects and aspirations. 
  • In Life Long Learning, students cover: 
    • Year 7 Transition and organisation liked to a changing job market, Time management, Coping with homework, Journey and home safely, Self-development, Where to find useful information, Introduction to the Careers resources in the LRC, Aspirations and aiming high, Introduction to Unifrog – online career programme.
    • Year 8 Leadership, communication skills and team work, Gender stereotyping, Entrepreneurship, Unifrog programme revisited, update skills. 
    • Year 9 Self-discipline, Unifrog programme revisited, planning for my future.
  • Assemblies and Form tutor time to raise awareness of academic and vocational pathways.
  • Year 9 GCSE Options Information.
    • Year 9 1:2:1 options interview with SLT.
  • Celebration of National Apprenticeship Week and National Careers Week. 

By the end of Key Stage 3 all students will have:

  • A better understanding of the full range of 14-19 opportunities for progression
  • A better understanding of their strengths and areas for development and support to evaluate how these might inform future choices in learning and work.
  • Been given direct access to employers, UTCs (University Technical Colleges) and universities.
  • An understanding of some of the qualities, attitudes and skills needed for employability.
  • Understand where to find useful and reliable online careers resources to research information about opportunities and apply their findings to help make informed choices for Key Stage 4 Options.
  • Received appropriate advice and guidance on Key Stage 4 options.

Key Stage 4

Provision

  • Year 10 work shadowing/work experience days focused on the world of work.
  • Opportunities to learn about next steps: universities, apprenticeships, colleges and independent training providers 
  • Lifelong Learning lessons where Unifrog programme is revised including working on covering letters and CVs
  • Year 11 Revision time management
    • Assemblies and Form tutor time raise awareness of careers, information on college open dates.
    • Year 11 6th form Options Information Evening
    • Year 11 1:2:1 interview with SLT
  • Celebration of National Apprenticeship Week and National Careers Week. 
  • Hertfordshire Services for Young People (HSYP) Personal Advisor 1:2:1 sessions.
    • Practical local learning placements for students interested in pursuing vocational pathways.

By the end of Key Stage 4 all students will have:

  • Enhanced their self-knowledge, career management and employability skills.
  • Used online resources and other sources of advice to investigate and explore future choices and progression routes.
  • Experienced the world of work through a work placement.
  • Been given direct access to employers, colleges and training providers.
  • Been given guidance to help identify a range of post-16 options and careers advice and support networks that they can use to plan and negotiate their career pathways.

Key Stage 5

Provision

  • In Lifelong Learning lessons, Face the Future Assemblies and Form tutor time, year 12 students will have access to:
    • Work experience week
    • Developing interview techniques and presentation skills
    • Introduction to the UCAS application process.
    • Support with UCAS personal statements.
    • Information talks and presentations on alternatives to university, including apprenticeships of all levels.
    • A year 12 UCAS visit
  • In Lifelong Learning lessons, Face the Future Assemblies and Form tutor time, year 13 students will have access to:
    • Support with UCAS applications 
    • Higher education course research.
    • Workplace laws, Unions, Taxation, Finance
    • Support and guidance for overseas university applications
  • Year 12 and 13 Oxbridge support programme.
  • Year 12 and 13 access to drop-in sessions with Hertfordshire Services for Young People
  • Celebration of National Apprenticeship Week and National Careers Week. 

By the end of Key Stage 5 all students will have:

  • Enhanced their self-knowledge, career management and employability skills.
  • Received guidance through the UCAS application procedure.
  • Been given direct access to employers and universities.
  • Been given guidance to help identify a range of Post-18 options.
  • Been provided with the resources to develop their CVs, personal statements and interview preparation.
