Public examinations take place annually during the summer term for Year 11 and Year 13.
Summer 2025 Contingency Days
The awarding bodies have collectively agreed upon a contingency day, which is always scheduled at the end of the GCSE and A Level examination timetables. This contingency day is in place to address any national or significant local disruption to exams in the United Kingdom.
For the June 2025 examinations, the awarding bodies have introduced an additional half-day contingency session, which will take place on Wednesday, 11 June 2025. The standard contingency day remains at the end of the timetable, scheduled for Wednesday, 25 June 2025.
Candidates must remain available until Wednesday, 25 June 2025, in case examinations need to be rescheduled. Please do not book any holidays until after this point.
If you have any queries please contact our Exams Officer at exams@queens.herts.sch.uk.

Non-Examination Assessments
Certain GCSE, GCE and other qualifications contain components of non-examination assessment (or units of coursework) which are internally assessed (marked) by staff at Queens' School and internally standardised. The marks awarded (the internal assessment decisions) contribute to the final grade of the qualification and are then submitted by the deadline set by the awarding body for external moderation.
There are three assessment stages and rules which apply to each stage. These rules often vary across subjects. The stages are:
- Task setting
- Task taking
- Task marking
Students will be advised of their centre assessed marks before they are submitted to the relevant awarding organisation.
Candidates may request a review of marking before their marks are submitted to the awarding body.
Candidates should consider the following before submitting any such request:
● Marks can be adjusted up, down or remain the same at any point in the review request process
● There are costs associated with the process; both administrative as well as for professional services required to undertake the review
Requests for a review of marking must be submitted to the Examinations Office within the time frame outlined in the NEA policy.
Please see the policies section for more details on how to go about this process.
